Any student who donates their accent can get their first hourlong lesson free. Donating your accent is simple: you read a one-page accent assessment speech on a recorded Zoom session and give these personal details: the year you were born, the general area you grew up in, your first language or languages, your general ethnic background (as you would describe it), and the approximate socioeconomic group you grew up in (as you would describe it). Your name will not be stored with these details. Phonetics for Actors will use your recording to generate a profile of your accent to store in an accent database. This is a profile of your accent, not your voice, so it can’t be used to create impressions of you personally, only to reproduce the way people from your background speak generally. Your profile will be used to teach other students your accent if they want to play a character from your background. Maintaining an accent database allows Phonetics for Actors to teach authentic accents and avoid stereotypes, so, if you want to see people like you presented authentically in performance, contributing your accent is a great way to help.
